Mr. Lawrence Jackson, Director of Bands
Lawrence Jackson is a graduate of Southern University receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Instrumental Music Education and a Master's in School Administration. Further study was done at Vander Cook College of Music in Chicago, IL. In 1976, he was appointed Director of Bands at Clinton High School, as well as responsible for the band programs at Clinton Elementary and Middle Schools. At Clinton High School, he led his band to receive awards of excellence and superior ratings at District IV Concert Band and Solo/ Small Ensemble Festivals; superior ratings and sweepstakes winner at Southern University Concert Band Festival; and superior ratings at the Festival of Champions National Concert Band Festival in Panama City, Florida.
In 1996, after serving as Director of Bands at Clinton High School for 20 years, Jackson accepted a position of Assistant Band Director at Southern University and was later promoted to Associate Director of bands. He has served as adjudicator for marching and concert band festivals throughout Louisiana, Texas and Michigan, and appeared as Guest Conductor and Clinician in Louisiana, Texas, Alabama and Georgia. Recently appointed Director of Bands at Southern University, he is one of three staff arrangers in the Band Department, conductor of the Brass Choir, Woodwind Ensemble, Basketball Pep Band and Saxophone Ensemble. Jackson is also Adjunct Professor of music in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. He is a member of Greater King David Baptist Church where he serves as Director and Conductor of the King David Orchestra.
His Honorary and Professional affiliations include Kappa Kappa Psi Band Fraternity, Phi Mu Alpa Music Fraternity, and the College Band Director's National Association, Music Educators National Conference, Louisiana Music Educators Association.

Mr. Nathan Haymer, Assistant Director of Bands
Mr. Nathan B. Haymer graduated from Southern University earning a Bachelor Degree in Instrumental Music Education. He later received a Master’s Degree in Leadership for Higher Education from Capella University and a Plus 30 (thirty semester hours of graduate credit in Music Education) from McNeese State University.
Mr. Haymer was appointed Band Director at Washington-Marion Magnet High School (Lake Charles, LA) in the fall of 2001. During his five year tenure at Washington-Marion, he developed a comprehensive band program. His Marching Band received countless 1st place awards in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee including over $20,000.00 in 1st place prize money. Mr. Haymer is also responsible for developing the first concert band in the history of Washington-Marion Magnet High School to perform at the Louisiana Music Educators Association (LMEA) district festival during the 2001-2002 academic year. His Concert Bands and Wind Ensembles received many superior and excellent ratings at LMEA District 5 Festival during 2001-2005 academic years.
Accepting the position of Assistant Director of Bands at Southern University in 2006, Mr. Haymer’s responsibilities includes arranging music for the marching band, supervising the dance routine committee, director of pep band, instructor of sight-reading development course, and assisting the director of bands in all other areas of the total program.
In addition, Mr. Haymer also serves as an adjudicator and clinician to middle and high school bands in the region and is the coordinator of the annual Southern University Summer High School Band and Dance Team Camp.
His professional affiliations include Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, Music Educators National Conference and Louisiana Music Educators Association.

Mr.Lorenzo Hart, Percussion Instructor
Lorenzo Hart has been a member of the Southern University band staff since the fall of 2005. He is currently the Percussion Instructor and Equipment Manager for the band department.
Mr. Hart graduated from Southern University in the spring of 2002 with honors, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree. He was a snare drum section leader from 1999 until 2002, receiving numerous awards as a member of the band including bandsman of the year. Mr. Hart is also a life member of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity Inc.
